My child is new to softball is that OK?
The Riptide Family is here for you! We have new and returning players in all our divisions. In the registration process, new players can request your child be put on a team with a friend. This helps make the transition easier for them!
I have registered my child for softball with the Riptide family, what happens next?
Registration closes on April 15th. Depending on registration number, we may have tryouts and/or skills assessments. These assessments not only help in choosing teams but in creating teams as even as possible. This can vary depending on what level your child is playing at and the number or children registered.
What does my child need to play?
All players must have their own fielder’s mask, batting helmet and ball glove. These items are not shared, especially with COVID restrictions in place.
There are bats for each team which are cleaned between uses. Some players have their own.
Cleats are not mandatory but recommended. Some infields can be easier to run around than others, cleats will help with grip running around bases.
What is the time commitment per week?
Most teams have one practice and one game per week, some teams more, depends on which level you play. Softball PEI does all the scheduling for games so this can vary from week to week, depending on field availability and your team schedule. The entire schedule is posted by the end of May.
